Açai (pronunced ah-sah-ee) is a wild berry grown mainly in the South America's Brazilian rain forests, which provides 25-30% of the Earth's oxygen. This is vital to our healthy living. These açai berries are grown on a type of palm tree known as Euterpe Olevacea that elevates to 10-30 meters in height. The fruit has a deep purple coloured skin, similar to a grape. The berry has a single large seed with very little flesh and pulp.
South America native population has been harvesting the açai berry for thousands of years and they are used as their main source of daily dietary intake. Açai berries are considered as a super food as they are packed with healthy and beneficial nutrients and highly effective antioxidant properties. These antioxidants fight free radicals and keep our bodies from rusting.
These purple-colored berries lend their colour to both grapes and açai. However the açai berries has a concentration of antioxidant properties 10 to 30 times higher than in grapes and even higher than blueberries and noni. The Açai berry also has rich source of antioxidants known as anthocyanins. It is the anthocyanins in grapes that are the reason a glass of red wine a day is associated with a heart-healthy diet.
Açai contains the same cholesterol controlling fatty acids as olive oil. The Omega-6 and Omega-9 acids in the açai berry help to promote a healthy heart by lowering the "bad" cholesterol and maintaining healthy with the "good" cholesterol levels. Science tells us that chemicals help to protect parts of our blood vessels, particularly those in our hearts.
These açai berries exhibit numerous therapeutic benefits.
